Farida Akhter, economist, is one of the founders of Nayakrishi Andolon. The independent scientist conducts research on development alternatives since 1980. She is the director of UBINIG, a leading Bengal NGO, that plays a crucial role in the development of social, political and cultural farmers movements since its founding in 1984. Farida Akhter is concerned with the consequences of national and international development policies for the lives of the people, and develops strategies for social change, which aim to guarantee the democratic participation of the population, as well as a just distribution of wealth.
