Franco-Tulio Viteri-Gualinga, one of the ex-presidents of Sarayaku and delegate for the provincial government of the canton Pastaza, is the very fist indigenous candidate running for election to the Ecuadorian parliament. On February 5, 2009, he marched together with El Movimiento Plurinational – the multinational movement – to the city hall in Puyo, the provincial capital, to officially register his candidacy.
